FAQ

What is a prong collar?

A dog prong collar, also known as a pinch collar, is a training tool designed to apply force in concentrated areas around a dog’s neck. Our Herm Sprenger prong collar for dogs consists of metal or plastic links with prongs that compress around the dog’s neck when tension is applied through a leash. The collar typically includes a limited-slip chain to tighten and release pressure evenly. Variations include quick-release buckles or collars without slip chains, which can significantly alter how force is applied.

Are prong collars legal in Australia?

The legality of prong collars in Australia varies by state and territory. Some states prohibit their use, possession, or importation, while others allow them under strict conditions. Please consult your local state laws to determine legality within your area.

How to use a prong collar?

Note: The following is an explanation of mechanics.
Fit: A prong collar should sit high on the dog’s neck, just behind the ears, and be snug but not overly tight. Proper fit ensures that the prongs remain in consistent contact with the neck.
Attachment: Attach the leash to the designated ring. We also recommend a additional safety attachment via the use of a double ended leash or clip attached to a second collar.
Operation: When leash tension increases, the collar tightens, causing the prongs to pivot and compress around the neck. This mechanism is intended to apply pressure evenly.
Training with a prong collar requires expertise and should ideally involve a professional.
